About us

Who we are

We are a team of ecologists, foresters, and change-makers who believe that the health of our planet is rooted in the preservation of its oldest ecosystems.

The Canopy Project began with a simple observation: planting trees is not enough if we are losing our most biodiverse forests at an even faster rate. We realized that protecting a thousand-year-old “mother tree” provides more carbon storage and habitat than ten thousand saplings.
What started as a small land-trust initiative has expanded into a global network.

Today, we work across borders to legally secure threatened primary forests, restore degraded corridors, and empower local communities to become permanent stewards of the land.

Our approach

Our Mission
Our mission is to ensure that no ancient forest is lost to preventable causes.

We combine advanced satellite monitoring with on-the-ground legal action to protect biodiversity “hotspots” before they disappear. Whether it’s through land acquisition, genomic seed banking, or ranger training, we provide the defense our planet’s lungs desperately need.

Our Vision
We envision a world where the global canopy is expanding, not shrinking.

We aim to build a future where old-growth forests are recognized as priceless global assets, legally shielded from extraction, and teeming with life. Our goal is to protect 1 million acres of primary forest by 2030.

Our numbers that speak

We have numbers that push us to give in our best and make sure that we break our own records. We are happy to be growing and helping more day by day.
